Moving from state to state can definitely be a challenge. Especially if it’s the first time you are taking such a step. Sometimes it may even feel as if you are moving to a different country all together. So much is new: New scenery, different weather,a new job, and perhaps a new school for the children. New neighbors and maybe even their accent is different, New habits at every turn. But there are a few things you can and should do in advance – to make the transition as convenient and simple as possible.
Things to do before moving from state to state
- Gather information about the education system in the designated residential area – this is a necessary move for all parents, but even if you do not have children yet, it may come in handy one day.
- Gather information about crime statistics in the new residential area – there are many sources to collect this information from, the vast majority of which is available to the public at large.
- Gather information regarding the prices of apartments or rentals in various cities and neighborhoods. Often, moving from one side of the road to the other -can suddenly reduce prices drastically.
- In order to decide which apartment or house to choose – make a list of preferences to help you figure out where and what you’re willing to compromise on, and the things that are most precious to you – on which you’d be willing to pay even more.
- If you already have a job – great. If you still do not have a job – check out all the places that advertise jobs in your field. In addition, it is useful to make anew – old social connections – if you have those in the new state. Post and write that you are looking for a job – in different social media. Do not be afraid. The more people know that you are looking for a job in your new state or city; the more likely you are to find work soon.
